Carla, Our First MazArt Foundation Graduate

Carla was the very first student to complete the MazArt Foundation Course, so she'll always have a special place in this little story of ours.

For her solo project she chose a citrus still life from the six references I offer. There's no lesson for Going Solo, so she painted it start to finish relying only on what she'd learned in the course: underpainting, four tones blocked in, then the detail layers. That's exactly what the solo project is there for.

The road to her certificate

  • Simple Shapes Still Life, where everyone paints their first oil painting
  • The Avocado, which also shows how the method works with water-mixable oils
  • The Apple Study, where it all comes together
  • Going Solo, one of six still lifes, painted without a lesson to follow

Being first takes a bit of courage. Thank you, Carla, for showing everyone else what's possible.

Learn the MazArt Method

Underpainting, four pre-mixed values and building in layers, taught step by step across florals, pets, portraits and landscapes.
